Exhibition

Since opening in 2008, Liberty Arts has produced more than 112 shows. The variety of themes has encouraged a growing, diverse base of community engagement and participation from artists throughout California and beyond.

A listing of the recent 2019 shows demonstrates the range of interest generated by our member-selected exhibitions:

  • Siskiyou Artists Association – Hopes, Dreams and Nightmares
This exhibition displayed a variety of expression, in various mediums and genres, of three subjective states not always so easily separated, and yet universally experienced!
Wherein lie our Hopes? Is it in our Dreams? When do we deflect our Nightmares into expressions of beauty?
  • Liberty Arts Annual Members’ Show – Miso
Our annual soup-themed show featured 50 artists and their eclectic work.
  • Making a Point of Inflection with Bernie Lubell

Bernie Lubell’s interactive installations focus on the intersection of science and the arts. As visitors work together to animate the mechanisms, they create a theater for themselves and each other.

  • The Shape of Color featured Carol Jenkins, Ellen Zucker, Shawn Vales, and Ned Axthelm. The goal of this exhibition was to reveal the thread that connects abstract and representational works.
  • Opening the Portals to the Altars of the Soul with the sculpture of Rajiv Hotek and the photographic artistry of Lani Cartwright was an exhibition of the sacred spaces we hold close to our hearts. The places we enter in times of quiet Meditation or Contemplation, where we are surrounded by Peace and Serenity, where Truth and Oneness is understood, and Solace is found.
  • Cowboy Up! was an Open Call exhibition celebrating the culture and evolution of the working cowboy of the American West with thirty artists presentations submissions from throughout the United States!
  • Cuba! Curated by Mark Comon, exhibited the talents of the Creative Photo Academy photographers as they shared one of their travel destinations and revealed the jewel of the Caribbean.
  • Runway Outré was Liberty Arts 5th Fashion Event presented on the Liberty Catwalk. This Open-Call invitational challenged designers to create sculptural clothing using a majority of materials and fabrics created from unconventional sources.
  • The Art of Persuasion was an exhibition celebrating the illustrators who create the art that inspires us to travel, sip, ponder and purchase. Works by Joel Anderson, Mimi Bailey, Kai Carpenter, Peter & Marie Hoey, Shery Larson, Dennis Ziemienski and Sierra Nevada Brewery.
  • Form and Space featured local Siskiyou artists Jill Gardner and Marlis Jermutus in a collaborative exhibition reflecting a conversation by the artists around the question: What is Form and Space?

Liberty Arts brings the opportunity for exposure to new ideas and works to our community in Siskiyou County through free admission to the gallery, artists’ lectures and through social media outlets. Exhibitions typically run 5 weeks, opening with well-attended public receptions.
