Liberty Arts held an opening reception for Evolution, a celebration of prolific artists Gochenour and Kinkade.
On Friday, August 2, Liberty Arts Gallery of Yreka held a lively opening reception for Evolution, a two-person exhibition celebrating the extensive careers of David Gochenour and Anne Kinkade.
Anne Kinkade (left) is well-known for her encaustic paintings, many of which feature horses, and has built a substantial following over the course of her lengthy career.
Sculptor David Gochenour works with wood, stone and steel, and manages to extract smooth, sensual shapes and flowing folds from the most rigid of materials.
The evening started at a languid pace before accelerating to a full-blown, packed-house celebration.
Many local artists, including Joel Glick (above), came out to support this perfect pairing of creative contemporaries.
The murmur of a hundred converstations filled the air…
…yet some guests managed to find repose among the activity.
Ice cold drinks – and an active air-conditioner – kept the Yreka summer heat at bay.

Anne Kinkade sampled delicacies from Patrick Harrigan, a New York-based chef who was summoned by friend David Gochenour to create gourmet hors d’oeuvres for this special event.

Visitors engaged in animated discussions about the work.

We always enjoy meeting new friends, like this gregarious couple who strolled in from the Yreka Art Walk taking place concurrently in Yreka’s historic district.
Meanwhile, out on the plaza, visitors enjoyed warm weather, cool shade and hot live music.
Singer/songwriter Jason Conley performed an upbeat set of original, folk-rock tunes accompanied by drummer John Bowman.
The art party played on as guests came and went, heading off to enjoy many other creative offerings of the Yreka Art Walk including more live music, art demonstrations, and author readings at various venues that have banded together to make Yreka a don’t-miss monthly art destination.
Liberty Arts Gallery extends a heartfelt “Thank You” to all our friends, patrons and art lovers who continue to support our events with your presence. We look forward to seeing you again real soon!
Evolution runs through September 6, 2013.
Liberty Arts Gallery hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
