Liberty Arts welcomes four Bay Area artists to town for “Figure-Ground” exhibition, June 29, 2012.
Please join us on Friday, June 29, at the opening reception for “Figure-Ground,” an exhibit featuring painting, sculpture and mixed-media work by a quartet of artists from the Bay Area:
- Paul Bridenbaugh
- Robert Ortbal
- Michael J. Ryan
- John Sloan
Artist’s Statement:
“The four artists will arrive at the gallery several days before the opening on Friday night in late June. Traveling from the Bay Area with a few ideas and earlier created works, a bunch of hunches, some tools, miscellaneous supplies and an odd assortment of materials. Once the gallery and downtown area have been surveyed and assessed they will set out to produce a collection of works that explores the figure-ground relationship from many different facets.
At times it will map the surrounding topography in more expected ways but often it will use this classic dialectic of the visual arts as a point of departure and/or a metaphor to discover spaces that exist beyond our everyday perceptions of the phenomenological world.
This nomadic practice lends itself to a profound sense of searching. Wandering not just in and out of the surrounding landscape but mining below the surface – to places of the heart – where itinerant behavior is often rewarded with insight into the human condition that sustains the noble practice of leading an examined life.”
