Women’s Work is an all-media, open call, juried exhibition exploring the question, “What is Women’s Work? Who defines Women’s Work? How has Women’s Work been defined through the ages? How has that definition changed?”

This open-call exhibition will focus on artworks that focus on women.  Submissions may depict women at work, in what we might consider traditional roles, or in roles that challenge the idea of what is considered to be a traditional role for women.

Throughout history and in all cultures, women have been portrayed in art … primarily by male artists and very often in images that objectify the female body or in traditional scenes of domestication. This exhibition seeks to challenge definitions of limitations and/or to explore them.

Artworks could be contemporary or something more historical that reminds us that women have been serving our country in many ways for much longer than current debates might lead us to believe.

Artworks could also be the products of women’s work. Women of all cultures and throughout history have taken the products of their work to market.

Some artists may decide to create works that are more directly feminist in nature, that comment directly on women’s struggles in society.

Each artist is invited to submit up to 3 pieces of work in the media of their choice. Please submit your entries via email to libertyartsgallery@gmail.com. Please include an image in .jpg format, the title, media, size.

Finally, please tell us about your submission … how does it address the theme of Women’s Work?

Please visit our Art Entries Guidlines for information and entry requirements.
