Melinda Whipplesmith Plank and Phil Dynan

Two Printmakers

This dynamic duo was chosen by viewers of our May 2016 Impressions Exhibition to return for a more in depth look at their work.

Melinda Whipplesmith Plank, The Cabin

Melinda Plank will present a medley of current and past work in woodblock prints and etchings. Her work celebrates the existence of open spaces and explores the continuation of biodiversity. Melinda is part of a fourth-generation ranching family and has recently received acclaim both regionally and internationally; most notably by her inclusion in the 2014 and 2015 “Birds in Art” shows at the Leigh Yawkey Museum in Wisconsin, and artist residencies at Lassen Volcanic National Park 2016, and Glacier National Park 2014.

Phil Dynan, Ranchos de Taos

Silkscreen artist Phil Dynan, uses the medium as a way to create art that crosses the boundaries between fine art prints and prints that are also used for commercial purposes. The exhibit represents four “genres” of application: Southwest Art, Cycling and Running Art Posters, Book Illustration Prints, and General Art applications. TheCycling and Running Art has resulted in a world-wide reputation for the artist and has been featured in books, magazines, newspapers and on TV. It is perhaps the most interesting genre from the point of view that the artist was challenged to produce work that could serve as both an advertisement for the events and also as a piece of art that event participants would want to frame and hang in their homes and offices.

Please join us in exploring the images they have created and exploring the printmaking techniques of serigraph, woodblock, and etching.

Opening Reception March 31st 5:00 ~ 7:00 pm

Silk & Wood will continue through May 5, 2017
